Used Car of the Day: Volkswagen Beetle TDI

This modified Volkswagen Beetle TDI has mud tires -- and a lot more when it comes to some off-roading type stuff.

There are GM air shocks in the back, a one-inch spacer lift in front, steel wheels, LED front bar lights, and all sorts of other mods.

The transmission is a DSG and there are 119,000 miles on the clock.

Apparently, the car passes Oregon's local regs.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Buy it. I dare you! Clearly the Pin has already been pulled on the Grenade, this only question is, how long until.... BOOM!

A real hero out to save his fellow car enthusiasts would throw himself on this grenade and pay the $6000.

Not a fan of the New Beetle, but would gladly take its Beetle replacement in a black turbo convertible with the 6 speed.

  • Chiefmonkey It's amazing how stingy automakers have gotten with sedans. The lack of engine options, lack of customizability, lack of sedans period... it is absolutely miserable. I want to go back to 2009 and buy a brand new Camry LE V6 or something of that sort.

  • MaintenanceCosts This is incredibly backward. CEO compensation should be such that it is noncontroversial, driven by the board rather than the CEO, and an easy shareholder vote. Corporate efforts at persuasion should be directed at the customers who might buy products and services.
  • Kwik_Shift_Pro4X A dozen Tesla charging stations that cost $43,000 each were destroyed by copper thieves cutting their charging cables to sell for $20 each.
  • Ravenuer So he lays off a bunch of workers and now wants a huge pile of money for himself?
